Last week, Mahomes plainly preferred the toe when hobbling around between plays. From a football perspective, the status of Mahomes toe raises questions about whether and to what degree hell move around on Sunday. Will Mahomes opt, if no one is open and the walls are caving in, to run the ball or to throw it away?

All week long on PFT Live and PFT PM, we made this point relating to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes: The concussion that eliminated him from the 2nd half of last Sundays playoff win over the Browns might have helped him prevent doing more damage to his clearly hurt toe.
The toe took a back seat to the concussion, but the toe is now back in the leading edge of the discussion. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Mahomes indeed has “turf toe,” which Mahomes currently is not 100 percent.
Mahomes got no last injury designation on Friday, which indicates that he will be readily available for typical task. However if the toe isnt 100 percent, the concern becomes whether his duty will be normal.
Last week, Mahomes clearly favored the toe when hobbling around in between plays. During plays, he revealed no ill impacts of the injury, fighting through whatever pain the injury was causing. And, offered that he was moving as he normally would, he potentially was doing more harm to the ligaments in the joint of his big toe.
Video from Fridays practice (embedded in the connected video) shows Mahomes moving without a limp or a hobble, however he never ever truly opens and runs hard, pressing off the foot in such a way that could worsen the condition.
From a football standpoint, the status of Mahomes toe raises questions about whether and to what degree hell move on Sunday. Will the team call plays that put him on the run? Will Mahomes opt, if no one is open and the walls are collapsing, to run the ball or to toss it away?
It becomes a more vital question given that the player and/or the team might be leery about putting Mahomes in harms method, 7 days after he got up from a take on disoriented and clearly woozy.
Mahomes, for his part, has vowed to “be myself.” Indeed, its tough to see Mahomes doing anything besides what he normally does. Whether that implies hell end up hobbling around in between plays once again remains to be seen.
