Original Content podcast: ‘Bridgerton’ is an addictive reimagining of Jane Austen-style romance

“Bridgerton,” the Shondaland drama that released last month on Netflix, provides a few key updates to the basic formula of Regency-era love.
For something, theres a racially diverse cast, with Black actors handling the role of early 19th-century English nobility and royalty. (At one point, among the characters offers an unconvincing explanation for why this is the case, however we– and the show– mostly overlooked it.) For another, theres a healthy dosage of sex; “Bridgerton” absolutely does not shy away from revealing viewers what its incredibly appealing cast gets up to in the bedroom.
On the current episode of the Original Content podcast, we have our quibbles– a few of the character motivations can be a bit discouraging, and while we took pleasure in the entire season, the very first couple of episodes were by far the most addictive and engaging.
Overall, however, we liked it, comparing “Bridgerton” to seemingly different shows like “Emily in Paris” and “You”– all providing clever revamps of familiar soap opera and love solutions. The program likewise gains from breathless plotting, with each of its eight episodes packed with twists. And did we point out that the cast is remarkably good-looking?
