On this day two weeks ago, U.S. Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman became a hero, as he fearlessly directed participants in the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol away from the Senate chamber. Today, officer Goodman was provided the honor of accompanying Vice President-elect Kamala Harris through that very same structure to the inaugural ceremony. Goodman, who is Black, is seen in a video challenging the mostly white mob, some holding Confederate flags, and diverting them far from the Senate chamber, where lawmakers were fulfilling in the process of licensing the results of the governmental election. Five individuals died in the rioting, and Goodman is credited with assisting to avert extra bloodshed. Legislation has been presented in Congress to offer Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal for his actions.
